Common - the rapper

[attachment=1]
The Universe apparently wants me to write about Common. I've had at least three Common encounters in as many weeks.

Last week or so, Oprah did a show on the Hip Hop Lyrics in re the Don Imus controversy. The rapper Common was one of the guests on the show (along with Russell Simmons). I'd never seen Common before and I don't know any hip hop or rap songs (except maybe the duet Eminem did with Elton John).

After seeing Common on Oprah, I rented Smokin Aces and Common has a small part in the movie as "Aces'" bodyguard/second hand man.

Now, I just saw Common on the cover of a magazine, UPTOWN magazine, I think.

In the movie Smokin Aces, Common's character is about to be blown away (or hacked away) by one of the Tremor Brothers. Common is saved when Alicia Keyes' character comes out of the elevator and puts a gun to the Tremor Brother's head.

We have a review of the movie Smokin Aces in our movie forum.

Common (formerly Common Sense, born Lonnie Rashid Lynn, Jr. on March 13, 1972) is a Chicago-based hip hop artist known for lyrics that focus on love and spirituality. Though he maintains a significant underground following, in recent years he has gained notable mainstream success. His major label debut Like Water for Chocolate received critical acclaim and moderate commercial success, and his latest album Be was nominated in the 2006 Grammy Awards for Best Rap Album.[1] Recently, Common has begun a burgeoning film career, starting with a role in the action thriller, Smokin' Aces.
