Tale of the Trash Can Color LaserJet Printer

HP Color LaserJet 2550
The above printer was actually the first color laserjet printer I found in a trash bin.

When you see something huge and really expensive in a trash bin, your first thought is ... "If it works, why would it be in the trash?" I have learned not to assume that just because something is big and expensive and in the trash that it is defective. So far, I have run across very little computer equipment in trash bins that actually DID NOT work.

When I fished the HP Color LaserJet 2550 Printer out of a trash bin, I looked it over on the outside and I couldn't find anything defective about the printer. However, as I was "porting" the printer home, the "small hand truck" I was using began to disintegrate. To make a long story short, by the time I got out of the subway and was trying to get the big Color LaserJet home, the small Hand Truck I had was broken and I was trying to figure out a way to get all the stuff I was carrying home. I manage to INCH my way to my apartment but not without breaking the hinge on the Tray 1 paper tray on the printer.

When I finally did get home and plugged in the Color LaserJet Printer, I got an error message. I assumed that either the cartridges were out of ink or that, if the printer wasn't already broken when I found it, that my breaking the Tray 1 Paper Tray was responsible for the error message on the printer.

THIS WAS LAST YEAR!

From last year to this weekend, I have basically been living AROUND this big Color LaserJet Printer waiting to see if I "ran across" printer cartridges that worked for the printer. Eventually, I decided that it might make more sense to just JUNK the printer since I have two other working color laserjet printers. I also have many many many color DeskJet and OfficeJet printers.

Well, over the weekend, I was giving the HP Color LaserJet 2550 a final "ONCE OVER" before I was going to just junk the whole thing.

1. When I looked at the ink cartridges, it looked like someone had spilled coffee inside the printer. I wiped off the print cartridges and made sure that the electrical contacts to the print cartridges weren't covered.

2. I noticed that there was a paper jam in the printer and the the paper jam (not the ink cartridges or the damaged paper tray 1) was probably responsible for the Blinking Warning Light on the printer.

3. I re-assemebled the priner, taped shut Paper Tray 1 because it was broken and unuseable and, I loaded paper into the Paper Tray 2 of the printer.

After doing all the above, I turned the printer on and it printed out a sample page in full color.

Now, I have three huge Color LaserJet Printers. So far, I've only used the printers to print out porn and pictures of Jamie Dornan.
